There is a big difference in coffee shop decoration between the Asian style and the US style. In US, most of the coffee shops feature a rustic style – wooden tables and lots of chalkboards. While in Asia, a lot of coffee house are very specifically targeting to girls who love romantic environments – bright colors, flowers and animal dolls everywhere.
When I walked into Socola Chocolatier + Barista, I could immediately tell that the owners may have some connections to Asia. The lighting, color and the little souvenir corner just grabbed my mind immediately. After a future research, I learned that owners Wendy and Susan Lieu named their company Socola after the Vietnamese word for “chocolate.” They were able to turn the love for chocolate into a sustainable business with press coverage in Eater SF, Huffington Post and many more.
Everything is perfected into details. Look at my hot chocolate, with a chocolate marshmallow floating on it, it was hard for me to even dig in! Next time, I have to try the so-called Truffogate:a double shot of espresso poured on top of housemade liquid truffle. Dreamy like this lovely chocolate wonderland.
