I always believe that good food is something that evokes your memory and your emotion. MX and I ran into this super boutique shop called Tianjin Dumpling, attracted by the savory crepe on their menu. The savory crepe, is a traditional breakfast in Northeastern China which originated from Tianjin, a city close to Beijing. MX was so excited because it has been a long long time since the last time he ate this. I am thrilled as well as I fell in love with the savory crepe in my last trip in Beijing. The savory crepe usually has multiple layers of flavors: starting with the crepe, then eggs, a Chinese donut (you-tiao), scallion, and finished with sweet and spicy sauce.
The owners are from Tianjin which I can tell from their accent. They don’t even have a table in the shop so we had to eat outside. It was a windy day but we were so happy and felt like being in the hometown. The couple also told me that their savory crepe is so popular that they don’t make dumpling anymore. Everyday, they get a lot of calls asking for their savory crepe (IMPORTANT BUSINESS LESSON – FOCUS ON ONE THING AND DO IT SO WELL).
Besides the savory crepe, you can also find tea flavored eggs and freshly made soy milk. Two of my favorite breakfast food!
