I spotted this cute bento box place in Oakland and have always ordered take-out whenever I miss mom’s food. Trust me, when I ate the first bite of the rice covered with that juicy braised pork, I knew this place is authentic – it was exactly the same flavor I experienced in Taiwan. I grew up in Fujian Province, China where a lot of food is similar to what Taiwan people eat so I always feel like eating homemade food here. My mom even speaks Taiwan dialect!
This place was born because the founder Stacy came to U.S. to pursue her MBA in Cornell University. After graduation, Stacy and her husband, Willy came to the Bay Area but she missed family so much that she decided to pursue her passion thus Taiwan Bento is born. I felt that Stacy’s experience resonates with me so much as I also came to the U.S. to earn an MBA degree. I missed home so much that I came to the Bay Area where more Asian food is available (well I admit I really miss boba tea the most). Although I love food and work in the food industry as a brand marketer, I can’t cook as well as Stacy so I haven’t had my own restaurant yet :p
I also highly recommend the Pork Belly Bun (better than the one I had in Momofuku Noodle Bar), Fried Popcorn Chicken, and Boba Milk Tea!
A corner of the bento box – love the tea egg!
A bite of rice covered with braised pork and cilantro is divine. In Taiwan, even the slimmest models love this traditional dish!
