After 4 years since 2011, I finally come back to my hometown to enjoy a REAL Chinese new year with all my families and relatives! My grandparents’ house is located in Putian, Fujian Province, which is a city near the sea. I can literally walk 5 minutes see the ocean – incredible scene. Every year, my grandparents would feed ducks, chickens and pigs just for the new year’s feasts. My parents, uncles and aunts are all working in different cities in China and Australia and we can only meet once a year during the festival season. The time becomes very precious to all of us.
This year, my grandparents are both reaching 80 years-old. We hosted a celebration for them – we invited 300+ people from the village to a birthday lunch – yes typically done as a tradition. I was so happy and excited to see all my cousins, nieces and all the relatives that I haven’t seen over the years!
No matter how far you go, home is always there.
There is the tradition.
There is the ritual.
There is the bond.
There is love.
