I was so glad to stop by Chiang Mai on my way to Bangkok. It is the largest and most culturally significant city in Northern Thailand. Chiang Mai has over 300 Buddhist temples – seeing all different temples all centered in a small city was breathtaking. On the full moon day of the 12th month every year, Thai people will also launch sky lanterns (hot balloon made with paper) into the sky, which is believed to help rid the locals of troubles and are also used to decorate houses and streets. If you are travelling to Thailand, I would strongly recommend going there in November or December when the weather cools down a little, and also fully embrace the local festivals!
